Home inventory guides
Home inventory evidence for insurance claims
Coverage and documentation requirements vary, but a coherent record is easier to explain than a folder of unnamed images and missing receipts.
Separate facts from estimates
Record the manufacturer, model, serial, purchase source and dates you know. Label replacement values as owner-entered instead of presenting them as guarantees.
Keep a photo and a close-up
A room view establishes context; a close-up of the label establishes identity. Both are more useful together.
Flag incomplete items
Do not let a half-finished inventory feel complete. Missing photos, serials, receipts and values should remain visible until reviewed.
Preserve the original sources
Keep receipts and photographs unchanged in the evidence folder so their provenance is clear.
